UWA joins new network

The University of Western Australia has further established its place among the world’s leading universities.

UWA has become a foundation member of the Matariki Network of Universities, a select group of high-quality universities across seven nations.

And Vice-Chancellor Professor Alan Robson has been appointed Chair of the Worldwide Universities Network board.

Centre to study our unique marine estate

A new $63 million Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre based at The University of Western Australia will boost marine science capacity in Australia.

Alumni welcome New Blues

The recent New Blues Welcome proved to be a memorable night for past Blues recipients to engage with old friends from the UWA sporting community and welcome the new awardees to the Blues Family.

A sporting Blue is the University’s highest sporting award and is presented to student athletes who achieve excellence in their sport through selection in national or international competitions, and is a proud UWA tradition.

UWA Religion and globalisation initiative

The University of Western Australia is to join other global research universities, under the auspices of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair's Faith Foundation, to link research and teaching strengths as well as develop and deliver courses on religion and globalisation.

Storm response

The hard work and dedication of staff, students and supporters of The University of Western Australia in the mop up after the Monday 22 March hail storm has paid off with most facilities restored to normal and others well on the way to full repair.

A day in Pompeii

The University of Western Australia is supporting the WA Museum’s A Day In Pompeii exhibition (May 21 – Sept 5) and will have four experts presenting an insight into the ancient civilisation of Pompeii famously preserved in time by hot ash from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79.

alumniConnect update

The University of Western Australia has officially launched alumniConnect, a new online community designed exclusively for UWA graduates. Emails providing individual login details have been sent out recently. Any graduate who hasn’t received their email by the end of the month or who has any questions on alumniConnect, please contact us on alumniconnect@uwa.edu.au.

A Century of Seasons

UWA Friends of the Grounds is holding a photographic competition to celebrate the majesty and mystery of the UWA grounds in the lead-up to the 2013 Centenary celebrations. Images for this competition will be included in the Friends of the Grounds calendars for 2012 and 2013. Images may include the grounds of the UWA Crawley, Claremont and Albany campuses, as well as the UWA Sports Park. The closing date is 31 May 2011.
