The 2009 Annual Friends Mixer, incorporating the launch of the Friends of the Grounds Calendar, will be held on Thursday 1 October in the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery.

Ray Scott has been awarded first place in the inaugural Photographic Competition organised by the Friends of the Grounds of UWA.
The University is home to a variety of Friends groups. These groups enable the community to be involved in life at UWA.
Friends groups
- Friends of the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery
- The Friends are an integral part of the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, providing support for its activities ranging from acquisition of works to providing artistic and technical facilities.
- Friends of the E. de C. Clarke Earth Science Museum
- The Friends have a common interest in Earth Science. They work to increase public awareness of the science of geology and the existence of the Museum through volunteering to staff it from 2 pm until 5 pm every Sunday afternoon.
- Adeste Humaniores
- Adeste Humaniores ("Gather around, civilised people!") began as an enterprise of the Department of Classics and Ancient History. It has expanded to advance the Humanities' contribution to the community, and to improve professional development opportunities for our students.
- Friends of UWA Music
- Friends of UWA Music provide the community with an opportunity to support our talented young musicians.
- Friends of the UWA Library
- The Friends of The University of Western Australia Library have been supporting the Library since 1966 by increasing community interest and by acquiring donations for it.
- Friends of the Grounds
- The Friends of the Grounds, established by the University through the Hackett Foundation in 2000, enhances the grounds through an annual program of activities.
