Portrait of Richie Ooi

Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics, 2003

I came to UWA in 2002 on a credit transfer program to undertake my final two years of my engineering degree. The reason I chose UWA is quite simple, it is one of the top universities in Australia and I was offered a scholarship to study engineering there.

Since graduating in 2004, I started working for WorleyParsons. My first engineering role takes me to the Worsley Alumina Refinery in Collie, WA. Frankly I did not expect to be working in the resource industry as my experiences are more inclined to the manufacturing sector. Nonetheless, I took on the job with full vigour.

Being a site-based project engineer is quite challenging, my duties involves conducting engineering studies and designs as well as managing various projects simultaneously from start to finish.
